I am not usually one for soap operas. But the political shenanigans currently gripping the British government make for essential reading and news watching. It also explains why I have been away from the screen for a while. Since the Tory leadership contest (it wasn’t really a race), events keep changing daily.
Now, I am not an insider. But it seems to me that the government has been hampered by a combination of its leadership’s hubris and its opponents’ attitudes that seem to come straight out of the movie Network. They are “mad as hell and not going to take any more”.
I think another problem is the Johnson government making Britain’s leaving the European Union a top priority. Not that priorities are bad, unless an appearance is given that Brexit is the government’s only priority. For example, recently the Prime Minister was to speak at a conference about increasing police numbers. However, Mr Johnson went off message (as is his wont) to talk again about Brexit. Not that this had anything to do with the occasion.
Like most, I am watching developments and trying to figure out what they may mean. The Prime Minister has said he wants a Brexit, do or die. He has also said it can be achieved with or without a deal. It is a game show where Boris Johnson appears to be trying to prove he can achieve what his predecessor could not.
Yet if successful, I have no doubt that Mr Johnson will consider himself and hold himself out as a national hero. And he would expect to be recognised as such no matter what the consequence may be. To this end, the Origin of the Specious believes that on leaving the EU, the constituent countries of the UK will be renamed in honour of its benefactor. England would become Borisland. Scotland and Wales will be Upper and Lower Pfeffel, respectively. Northern Ireland will be Northern Johnson while the Channel Islands will now be called the Alexander Islands. Meanwhile, the Isle of Man will adopt the new moniker of the Isle of BoJo. As a whole, the country would now be known as The Disunited Kingdom of Great Brexit.
In addition, the country will need a new national anthem. Looking at the past and the history of the Royal Family, soon the nation will be singing “Brexit, Brexit über alles.”
Leaving aside the referendum campaign lies, isn’t this what Britain voted for in the 2016 referendum?

Brilliant, very funny piece
There’s a thought David! You have encapsulated the idiocy of the current situation.
