Over the past several months UK singer Mabel has enjoyed the success of two hit singles. The first, Don’t Call Me Up, was an instruction to a former lover. Her newest song, Mad Love, features a chorus that simply repeats the line – presumably to a different person – to “All night give me mad love,” a line repeated four times per chorus.
We, at The Origin of the Specious, her new song, if only because there are several times when she sings “Down-die-die-dow-dee-da-down.” It is a riff reminds us of the many niggunim we heard growing up.
Yet we have been wondering if it is possible to somehow avoid the excessive repetition of the chorus. To do that, young American pop sensation Billie Eilish would need to be involved. Mad Love would only have to be re-written to incorporate a pastiche of Eilish’s song Bad Guy. Mabel would sing the verses and Eilish would disinterestedly sing the choruses which would go something like this: “All night give me mad love / Don’t give me bad love / Don’t make me sad, love / Just give me mad love / Duh!
Could it happen? Would they work together? Well, if the money was right. Duh!
