Here at TOOTS Central, we have become addicted to following the Tory party leadership race. Why we can’t look away is perhaps the contest is akin to watching auto racing and waiting for the crash to occur. Instead, we have come to the conclusion what we are really watching is a reality television talent show named something like The T Factor. After all seven contestants have been whittled down to five, then four then three and now the two finalists will head into an, um, head-to-head final until September. Or, given the media fishbowl existence in which the final two find themselves, perhaps its more like Tory Big Brother.
So far on The T Factor, we have seen candidates puffing themselves up by telling the nation (or at least a particular segment of it) how wonder full of themselves they really are while at the same time pointing out the others’ flaws. Yet as they do so, they remain oblivious to the harm they are causing to the party generally. Specifically, The Origin of the Specious (TOOTS) muses on why any of those eliminated could want to associate with all the assassins of their characters (we mean, fair weather colleagues). Of course, this not just a Tory thing. The same applies whenever any political party undertakes a process to find a new leader. The machinations are just so charming.
Once this is all over, for TOOTS the question arises as to how on earth the current Tory judges – the amorphous 1922 Committee – will minimise the havoc currently being caused. The answer may need to come at another time, maybe when their attempts at control are set to the soundtrack of How Can You Mend a Broken Heart? by the Tee Tees, colloquially know as The Titties. After all, they all seem to be acting like just a bunch of them.
Still the leadership campaign makes much more sense as a political version of a reality game show.

And now it’s got worse as they’re paving the way to have Boris Johnson in Liz Truss’s cabinet!!!
New genre. Reality horror?
