- The New Solipsism
There is only one television in our household. This was in the hope of teaching our children to learn to share the Boob Tube. Thanks to technology, that was a vain hope since laptops and telephones can now stream television shows and movies. My children spend countless hours watching what interests them on a mobile phone or laptop.
If my children did not need my wife and I to prepare meals, clean up, do the laundry and drive them to places, technology will have made us obsolete sooner than we had expected.
Now maybe I’ll be able to watch what I want. But my wife and I have different tastes so I’ll probably be just like them: watching alone.

- What hath the internet wrought?
As a child I was taught a particular conversational rule: If I could not say something nice, I should not say anything at all. It was more important golden rule for getting along with people, more so than never talk about religion and politics.
Yet I am afraid the intenet has allowed people’s negativitiy to spew forth unabated along the information superhighway. From what I have seen from my children’s interests, a lot of evidence can be found on YouTube where vloggers revel in their criticisms of work other people have created and completed.
What does it all mean? Ever polite, I can’t offer any further comment. Would others did the same.

- What if Robertson Davies were alive today?
Canadian author Robertson Davies died in 1995. Lately I have been reading and enjoying his literary legacy, various novels and short stories. Currently, I am in the midst of The Papers of Samuel Marchbanks, the musings of a fictional character created by Davies. These are divided into three volumes: The Diary of Samuel Marchbanks, The Table Talk of Samuel Marchbanks and Marchbank’s Garland. It is an impressive and wide array of thoughts on sundry topics and curmudgeonly sentiment.
If Robertson Davies were alive today, I am certain he would have embraced technology and become a blogger. I am led to believe he may have made a better living.
