More from the Brexit Dictionary by The Origin of the Specious:
British Nationalism
The referendum campaign instilled a sense of nationalism or jingoism in the population that has been missing for decades outside of the 2012 Olympics, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the death of Princess Diana. That jingoism receives a Rosette for getting British voters out by asking them even if to preserve the best the United Kingdom has to offer by defending it from the onslaught of European intervention, antipathy and migration.
The expressions of nationalistic feeling before and after the EU referendum are awarded a Grossette for sentiments on immigration that were once espoused by the British National Party and the UK Independence Party, only this time otherwise offensive attitudes are considered acceptable.
British Pride
As shorthand for all the good qualities stemming from British Nationalism, British Pride receives a Rosette.
British Pride can often be confused with the beer London Pride, especially after one has enjoyed more than a few. It is awarded a Grossette because consuming beer (or any alcohol) to the point of vomiting is a mainstay of British culture.
Class System
The British Class System is awarded both a rosette and a Grossette simultaneously because of how the class system functions.
For particularly older Britons, the class system reinforces their belief that things were better when people knew their place in the social order and in life generally. Especially migrants.
For younger Britons, the class system highlights just how much British society is institutionally biases against people advancing beyond their station.
Disunited we stand…
The clause is the beginning of a pastiche lyric that ends with “Together we’ll fall”. Rosette or Grossette is determined by one’s taste in music.
Divisions, Social
The Referendum result qualifies for a rosette on the basis that since a majority had voted to Leave, there were no social divisions within the country.
However, the result of the vote was less than a pollster’s margin of error. Those same pollsters, working on the day of the vote, noticed that there were indeed divisions among voters, each entitled to a grossette. They were:
1 a division between English voters in London and outside of London;
2 a division between English voters and Scottish voters;
3 a division between English voters and Welsh voters;
4 a division between voters who were educated beyond secondary school and those were not; and,
5 a division between younger voters and older voters.
One must question whether these divisions truly exist since the pollsters got the result wrong in the first place!
Euroticism or Europhilia
The titillation among Remainers for anything European and the prospect of Britain remaining in Europe is given a rosette.
Leavers who love European pornography are given a Grossette.
Europraxia
A mental dissociation – aka Inconsistency Corbinista – stemming from a politician half-heartedly campaigning for one side in the referendum whilst making public statements that the other side should win.
A Rosette is given for this ingenious method of being able to claim one supported the winning side regardless of the actual result.
A Grossette is given for the over hypocrisy when taking a political stance. The country deserves better from its politicians.
Iso-Nationalism
A Rosette is given for the contraction of Isolationist Nationalism, the result of the Brexit vote as well as its ultimate consequence.
A Grossette is awarded to those members of the British establishment who erroneously believe Iso-Nationalism is the Best of British(TM) as a new ISO standard for the proper conduct of business.
Little Britain
Britain will no longer be Great once the UK leaves the EU and, following a Sexit, Scotland (along with possibly Northern Ireland) leave Great Britain.
A Rosette is given for proving Oscar Wilde right, that life does imitate art (or at least the title of a once popular comedy programme). A Grossette is given for being entirely self-inflicted.
