Life is Punderful No. 1: After the road trip

Another weekend, another road trip. This time it was to a relative’s birthday lunch.

I went by train. It was a day with no work stoppages or slow-downs planned. I arrived in good time and hopped into a waiting car to get to the restaurant.

I like talking to cabbies. Most are interesting characters with interesting lives and interesting stories, especially as many come from other countries.  I get to learn about the wider world.

To get to my destination I was driven by a gentleman who was originally from Iraq. He described to me what life was like before and after Saddam Hussein, explaining that stability had been taken away during the Gulf Wars. He had found a more peaceful life here in the UK was trying to make something of and for himself.

My return trip to the train station was with a driver originally from North Korea. He was a doctor in his home country and was able to get permission to go to a professional conference here. He decided to stay in the UK despite not being able to practice . Still, he was grateful for the chance to earn a living free from governmental interference.

Later I took a cab home. My last driver of the day was Iranian, a younger man who, while happy with post-revolution mores, was seeking a better standard of  living.

Then when I went to bed it dawned on me.  I had spent my day amidst the Taxis of Evil.

    1. Thanks, Doris. The inspiration came from the train station near my office. There is a lot of construction going on and the temporary barriers covered the “T” in “Taxis” painted on the lane. It read “Axis” and a pun was born… I hope you are enjoying the posts.
