I love neologisms – new words, coined words. In the right circumstance they can explain the unknown or bullshit people into thinking something is amazing or “must have”. Take the health and beauty industry, for instance, where new words are used as a selling point despite the fact that people don’t know what they mean. Here are a few.
Nanobrasions is a new, secret ingredient found in skin cleansers. They are teeny tiny scourers that open pores and get rid of the oil and dirt hiding there.
Defluvia is the latest development in decongestants to clear up phlegm, snot and other cold symptoms. They enable cold sufferers to breathe easier.
Botupress will soon to be found in anti-ageing creams everywhere that, on application, tightens one skin and smooth out unsightly wrinkles. A side benefit of Botupress is that it does away with the need for injections and expensive plastic surgeons.
Pentapeptides has one of two possible meanings. They are either a cluster of five particular molecules that open pores and smooth skin. Or they are five cheers at a pep rally;
Laxury is a new anti-constipation remedy that will enables sufferers to once again live in comfort.
Of the five words, above, one is real. Of the others, how many might we see in future commercials? Please put your answers in the comments and let me know.

Pentapeptides I assume is the real one.
I can say that I drive my husband insane with constant Greek references – “You know that word is derived from…”
Nanobrasions & Botupress – THOSE are selling words, for sure!
